Tooth removal
A tooth removal takes out a tooth that can't be repaired, is very loose or is causing an infection. It is for anyone with a tooth like that, or a wisdom tooth that causes trouble.
We do straightforward removals here. If your case is complicated, the dentist tells you and refers you to an oral surgeon.

What happens
A tooth removal, step by step
It is usually a single visit; if several teeth need to come out or the case is complicated, it can take more.
- 01
Step 1: We check with an X-ray
The dentist looks at the root and the bone to see whether removal is straightforward.
- 02
Step 2: We explain your options
Repair the tooth, wait or remove it, and what comes after. You get the cost in writing.
- 03
Step 3: We numb and remove the tooth
A local anesthetic is given. You will feel pressure; if you feel pain, say so and we stop.
- 04
Step 4: Care at home
We give you gauze, written instructions and a number to call if anything worries you.
Good to know
Comfort, options and aftercare
Comfort
Most people feel pressure, not pain, and we stop whenever you ask. If you're worried, say so when you book.
Other options, and if you wait
Sometimes the tooth can be repaired with a filling or a crown, or needs a root canal at another office. If you wait, the infection can grow. The dentist explains each option.
Risks and aftercare
Some bleeding and swelling are normal. Call if the bleeding doesn't stop, the swelling grows or the pain gets worse after a few days. If swelling spreads to your face, eye or neck, or you have trouble breathing or swallowing, go to an emergency room or call 911.
How it's billed
At your fee level or under your plan. You get the cost in writing before starting, and if the case is referred to another office, that office gives you its own.

Questions about tooth removal
Does having a tooth removed hurt?
The local anesthetic numbs the area. Most people feel pressure, not pain. Afterward there can be soreness, and the dentist explains what to expect.
What do I do about the gap?
There are options, such as a partial denture or a bridge, and if you want an implant, we refer you. We go over it with you, with the cost in writing.
How long does it take to heal?
Everyone heals at their own pace. The dentist tells you what to expect and when to call us.
