Cleanings and exams
An exam of your teeth and gums, and a cleaning to remove tartar. It is for adults who haven't been to a dentist in a while and for anyone who just wants to keep their mouth in good shape.
We start by listening to what worries you. Then the dentist examines you, tells you what they see and explains your options, without scolding.

What happens
A cleaning visit, step by step
It is usually a single visit; if a deeper cleaning is needed, it can take two.
- 01
Step 1: We talk
We ask what you want checked and whether anything bothers you.
- 02
Step 2: We examine
The dentist looks at your teeth, gums and bite. X-rays are taken only if needed.
- 03
Step 3: We clean
Tartar is removed and teeth are polished. If something needs more work, we explain it before going on.
- 04
Step 4: We tell you what's next
If treatment is needed, you get the cost in writing. If not, we tell you when to come back.
Good to know
Comfort, options and aftercare
Comfort
If anything bothers you, raise your hand and we stop. A routine cleaning rarely needs anesthesia; if you need it, the dentist uses a local anesthetic and explains how it is given.
Other options, and if you wait
You decide what to do with what the dentist shows you, including waiting. Tartar left in place can irritate the gums and raise the chance of bigger problems.
Risks and aftercare
After a cleaning, your gums may be tender for a day or two. The dentist explains the risks of each step and gives you instructions for home.
How it's billed
At your fee level or under your plan, and always with the cost in writing before anything starts.

Questions about cleanings and exams
How often do I need a cleaning?
The dentist decides, based on the state of your gums and teeth. For some people it is more often and for others less.
It has been years since I saw a dentist. What happens?
That's fine. The first visit is to see where you stand and what comes next, with no scolding.
Do I need X-rays every time?
Not always. The dentist asks for them when needed and explains why.
