Dental emergencies

A broken or knocked-out tooth, pain that won't ease or a bump on the gum are reasons to call us today. This page says what to do first.

We are not open around the clock: we see patients during our hours. Call early and we'll tell you whether we can see you that day; we try, but can't promise it.

How we handle an emergency

  • Call us first, by phone

  • If we can't see you that day, we give you the first opening

  • The cost in writing, even for an emergency

  • Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now. Go to an emergency room or call 911. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call our office right away.

What to do first

What counts as an emergency, and what to do first

  • A broken or chipped tooth

Rinse with warm water and keep any pieces you can. Call us to see how to care for it until the visit.

  • An adult tooth that came out

Call us right away; time matters. Hold it by the crown, not the root, and don't scrub it. If you can, put it in a little milk.

  • Pain that won't ease

Call early. We tell you whether we can see you that day and what to do in the meantime.

  • A bump or swelling on the gum

Call us today: it can be an infection. If swelling spreads to your face, eye or neck, or you have trouble breathing or swallowing, don't wait: go to an emergency room or call 911.

The urgent visit

How an urgent visit works

  1. 01

Step 1: Call in the morning

Esperanza answers and asks the basics: who you are and what's going on, with no health details by message.

  2. 02

Step 2: We tell you if we can see you today

If there is an opening, it's yours. If not, we give you the first available.

  3. 03

Step 3: The dentist examines and explains

The dentist says what they find, what the options are and what happens if you wait.

  4. 04

Step 4: You get the cost in writing

An emergency visit is also worked out at your fee level or under your plan.

Questions about emergencies

Do you see emergencies at night or on weekends?

No. We see patients during our hours. If an emergency can't wait and is life-threatening, go to an emergency room or call 911.

Does an emergency cost more?

It is worked out like any visit, at your fee level or under your plan, and you get the cost in writing before treatment starts.

What if I have no insurance or proof of income with me?

Come anyway. We'll see to the emergency and work out the level with you afterward.
